Pearson’s Test of English
- PTE stands for Pearson’s test of English.
- It is a test to assess the test taker’s English language ability and is accepted by universities primarily in Australia. However, the test in being increasingly accepted by universities in New Zealand, UK and USA too.
- PTE is a computer based exam and is remotely administered by Pearson Education at selected test centre.
- Results are out in five business days after the test date.
- The exam has 4 modules: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Candidates receive a band score ranging between 10 to 90 for both individual modules and an overall band score.
- Minimum score requirements vary depending on country, degree level, university and the subject. As a guide, you need an overall score of at least 58, with a minimum of 50 in each individual band in order to meet English language ability criterion.

Frequently Asked Questions
While there is a PTE General test, it is not accepted for visa applications. If you plan to study or work abroad, you have to take the PTE Academic test.
Generally, it does not matter which test you take. Both are tests of English proficiency. While IELTS currently enjoys a wider acceptance. PTE is slowly getting there. It is always best to check with the relvant authority to see which tests they accept. If you are in doubt, you could aways reach out to us!
PTE is conducted almost everyday is most major cities in India. Availability of test dates should not be a problem. There is also an option to book emergency test dates upto two days in advance. If you are taking the test in India, a valid passport is the only accept form of identification. So, yes. You absolutely must have a passport to take the PTE test.
PTE is taken completely on a computer. It is not a pen and a paper test. All your responses must be typed in. You will be provided with an erasable notepad and a marker to make any notes.
